Summer Piking

Just wondering how many pikers bother to lure fish through the summer months compared to those who hand up the tackle untill autumn time.

Personally I fished all the way through last summer, caught well over 100 jacks (unhooked, rested and returned quickly, no need for photos or weighing) but nothing of any decent size untill the end of august.

Thinking of trying for some different species this year, attempted it last year and caught a few roach and a couple of nice bream but the delicate tackle does not always agree with my clumsy hands!!

Re: Summer Piking

Hello mate, I dont normally bother again until october, I have the odd lure fish when the urge gets to strong. But I turn to other species from april onwards.

Re: Summer Piking

Just got back from a day on a stretch of river known for its pike! Hundreds or jacks and River stretch record is 39lb! I set up a patternoster rig and didnt get a touch all day lonngg!! Give it a month or two or just go to a lake known for its pike! You should get on fine! I did catch a 9lb bream and 1lb 3oz roach
WAIT FOR THE WINTER!!

hope its useful

Re: Summer Piking

yea if you drop it in front of their face, ive had my record pike in the summer but it went to seconds after throwing the bait out. If you can drop bait on any pikes nose it will have it but i personally rather throwing a rod out for the day or night and know that theirs a pike looking for the bait! where in the summer you have to go looking for them

Re: Summer Piking

Yeah think I'll get some lighter tackle and fish for what I've always regarded as bait through the summer!

Sussed out a couple of nice swims yesterday on the local river, urban fishing through the town which i'm not a fan of but so many fish it was unbelievable, bream, perch, roach and some clonking great chubb all sitting in the margins.
