Pike taken on shad minnow

Pike taken on shad minnow - ok finally got the camera woking and this is a one of a few jack pike taken from a lake a few months ago

The shad minnows if worked correctly make the pike go mad and hit the lure so hard that it makes your heart jump

Cool Re: Pike taken on shad minnow

Nice Picture Richard,

I have been thnking about Storm Lures for Piking, what other types could you use?

What sizes work best and when should you use them?

I have seen some rather large "mothers" on the shelf at my local tackle shop....but they are a bit pricey. The best Pike this season came out of Chew Valley at 35lbs at caught on a fluo green and black ruber type lure about 10" long. But priced the lure at ....£14.99!

What lures do you use.........

Well I think if a pike is hungry and a lure is worked correctly then all will catch and I think that the colour / reflectness of the lure is the biggest factor and not size

The minnows seem to be good as they are cheap ( I think about 6-7 pounds )

Although thier whole range looks great , mmm probable catch more anglers than fish

Side note - rattlers seem to have the edge

I generally use 4/5 inch lures as this seems to get the most action , ok you will pick up many more jack pike with a small lure but hay its all great fun on light tackle

Good question - I do not use lure if the river is in flood as just seem not to get the results ( find this is best for deadbait )

Re: Pike taken on shad minnow

Nice piccy Rich.

Some good information, but I prefer to sit back and relax behind a few deadbaits, although still love an evening with a few lures

Oh no Dan, each to their own. It would have to be lure or plug fishing for me mate.

Kiwi.
