| starting up hi all I'm starting pike fishing this year and I'm wondering if there is any decent not to pricey starter kits I'm on about end line tackle and things like that, what I'm kinda after is like a kit with a few plugs spoon and things like that and some wire traces and hook etc basically a starter kit of end line tackle iv seen this on some random web sight a while ago http://www.tacklebargains.co.uk/acat...-----5251.html (the predator box) but from the pic the plugs on top look cheap and nasty and i thought it wouldn't even be worth £25 and could even be a danger to the fish? do any of you lot know any thing like this witch is a better option or is that box any good or should i just go and buy it all in separate pieces? thanks |

| Re: starting up I personally wouldnt go for that kit it is all Fladen tackle which is definitely bottom end, their traces are rubbish! You should be able to set yourself up with some decent end tackle for £25 mate. Dont forget some decent unhooking kit as well. __________________ Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain, Region 13 Devon. | Re: starting up I would rather have one or two good traces, than a dozen cheap & nasty ones The last thing you want is a Pike of any size swimming about with a mouth full of treble hooks & wire following a break off Personally I make my own with Greys 30lb 7 strand wire, use two trebles (debarbing two hooks on each) give them a good test before using & you shouldn't have any problems Don't get carried away with wanting a box full of fancy plugs, you will not use them all & they will use cheap fittings which just don't last My last two plugs cost me £22 (ouch if you lose them) but the quality is excellent, like everything else you pay for what you get Most important is a good sized unhooking mat & some long nosed pliers, join your local PAC who will show you how to handle Pike the correct way with confidence, despite looking like a fish with attitude they are very fragile when handled badly In Pike fishing it does not pay to compromise on price, full stop ! Good luck |
