Bait Additives.

This week's Angling Times has got me thinking about deadbait additives. I for one am sceptical about them, i have never really noticed a great difference although some venues have given different results than others.

In this week's AT it talks about an Irish angler using Vodka injected into deadbaits as an attractant. I can see how this works by breaking down the natural oils in the fish to be released into the water more readily and with greater ease. He has argued that all his 30lb+ pike have fallen to sea deadbaits injected with the spirit and he says it out fishes plain deads any day . I must admit i am going to try this once the lakes thaw cause i am intrigued.

I have used fish oils, pig blood and in one instance WD-40 (before anyone says anything, Yes i know its a bad idea but it was a one off), So my question is what is the strangest deadbait additive you have used and what the was the degree of successfulness?

wd 40 works on the boat especially for cod and ling but to waste perfectly good vodka ??

Yeh it worked for the pike aswell, but i need to do some research into its effects on the water! cause it cant be good although it is in such small quantities it might not be affecting the lakes at all.

Good vodka? i was going to go to Lidls and get a half bottle for £3 It would probably be more like paint stripper than Vodka though

wd 40 is made up mainly from fish oils


wtf wasting vodka on fish ,what ever next ? wasting Magners on women

The only problem is the WD40 it is petroleum based, i might have another go with it, cause it does work!

Magners is something that should never be wasted... especially on women!

i have great faith in smelt oil,it has done me proud a couple of times,

but vodka ? , might be worth a try,

I have saw smelt oil to buy actually, i might go on a shopping spree some day and buy as much tackle i can afford, if so i will get it!

Yeh i was surprised by vodka aswell, would it breach copyright if i was to scan the article in and post it on here?

thought wd was solvant based ,thats why it dries up

interesting read mate , vodka would be good to mix in a flavour when its really cold , help to stop the oils freezing and thin them out ,
