| Exeter Canal - Set lines found! Found out yesterday that the EA have removed set lines from the Double Locks area of the canal. They were set for pike as they had snap tackles baited with dead roach. Anybody who fishes the canal should be on the lookout for anything/anyone suspicious. If you do see anything untoward then please gather as much info as you can. Numbers of people, descriptions etc and report it as soon as possible. EA 24hr Hotline number = 0800807060 Exeter EA number (not 24 hrs) = 01392444000 Exeter and District AA hotline = 07967251443 __________________ Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain, Region 13 Devon. | Re: Exeter Canal - Set lines found! This is the thing, although there was nothing on them this time. How long have they been there? Anyway we all need to do our bit. If nothing ever gets reported then nothing will be done. __________________ Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain, Region 13 Devon. | Re: Exeter Canal - Set lines found! Hi a set line is a strong line with multiple hooks/baits along its length unfortunately they can be very difficult to spot as they are very often fastened low to the water or under the overhang of the bank. Any detected should be removed and reported to the EA. However according to my friend in the EA, its very difficult to act unless someone is seen setting or retrieving a line. This is why reporting is vital because with information and intelligence the EA can look for patterns and hotspots. Key times for those laying set lines are early morning and just into dark. Just one or two prosecutions can send the message out pretty damn quick to other would be thieves! Also worth mentioning is the fact that set lines with intent to take fish IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE under current EA law. Information is key! ![]() A pretty crap diagram of a set line I just knocked up. Doesnt necessarily need the float. __________________ Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain, Region 13 Devon. | Just be carefull if you see one & try to retrieve it that you don't get the blame for putting it there.... I saw a load of tangled garden netting on the bank of the Test near Andover in the week. Looks like someone has been using it to try & net trout. Probably bloody immigrants again..... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Exeter Canal - Set lines found! Well done count zero for putting this post up. makes me sick, these type of people have nothing to do with fishing-angling they are ignorant selfish people who dont care or even give a monkeys or a second thought to the damage they are doing, and its people like us who are willing to pay for our club books and rod licences for the privelidge of fishing that they are s******g on. The biggest thing of all though is they are killing the fish |
