Re: Pike Fishing the Canal

hand grenades..........
on a serious note, get yourself some quality traces and some floats and use livebaits. that way you can stalk along the canal till you hit one. theres some good rigs in the pike fishing section, if you fancy dead baiting.
hope this helps m8

Re: Pike Fishing the Canal

I would sa a pie trace with size 8 semi barb hooks.
When placing your baits try close to the banks near or far. The pike feel safe if they are up against something.

Re: Pike Fishing the Canal

When I used to fish the canal for pike I used to use a a variation of a helicopter rig which I use for carp fishing, if using dead baits 90% of the time I'd pop the dead bait up using pipe lagging. Always take a float rod and some maggots to catch yourself some livebaits...

Another good tip is ride down the canal on your bike...have a look where people are pike fishing, also have a look where the matches are on the canal and get down there the day after, hopefully all the free grub going in has attracted small fish into the area...

Hope this helps,

HEWY

Re: Pike Fishing the Canal

I always carry a small teliscopic bleak whip in my pike bag. along with a ready tied float rig. Perfect for catching live bait, folds down to about 10" & weighs virtually nothing. Just don't let Bananna Steve see you live baiting coz he's squeemish....

Re: Pike Fishing the Canal

Do you know any websites that show how to set a pike rig up, like a sliding pike bung or what ever ? Because I was looking at one and the Dead bait was just on the bed of the canal is that how its suppose to be ?
Cheers James

Re: Pike Fishing the Canal

you can fish your dead bait on the bottom or pop it up with some foam its really upto you, mate.as for rigs you could use a paternoster, a helicopter or running ledger it all depends on the situation your in.
