No matter where I go there isnt any pike!!!

Said it before and im sayin it again, I am pissed off to the max with piking. No matter where I go or what I do or how long I spend, it just doesnt happen. We dont even get missed bites/runs, we get nothing! Not a touch!

Its got to the stage that the night before or the morning we're leaving we just know we arent gonna catch anything! I think deep down I just enjoy sittin at the lake/river side watching the world go by, never mind fishing.

We blanked twice in a 'guaranteed a pike' lake. When I told people about it they wouldnt believe me, 'no way mate you cannot have 6 rods out in that lake and not catch a pike' is what we were told.

Starting to think we're doin something wrong but I know we arent!

Was talking to another fisherman yesterday after yet another blank. He said the place is crap, they have a pike competition at it every 2 weeks and what size of pike won it last time?... 1lb 2oz. There was about 10 of them out yesterday and all they got betweent them was a 2lb pike.... In saying that, I helped another fella pull a low double out. He reckoned anout 11lb. But why was it not on my rod!!! I was using the exact same methods.

I dont know what to do. Carrying all my gear as well! Its a nitemare to cart it about for it to be of no use!

Anyone else having pike trouble? There is no where tht I know of that I could go to have a good days pike fishing. Surely that cant all be foreignors fault?

Rant over

Hi PH. There was a story on MSN earlier this week about East Europeans pike fishing with a ------SHOTGUN. Other anglers nearby called the police when they heard the blasts. Wonder if they had a firearms licence and a rod licence? You`re bad luck streak can`t last forever though.Let`s hope your next outing produces.

Blanking is part of learning as far as I'm concerned, though I do know how you fell. By now I should know everything :)

Unlucky mate

The way the weather has been the Roach etc...shoals are tightly packed and can be in areas that you are not fishing. Find the shoals of Roach and the Pike wont be far away.

I would chat to the match / pleasure anglers to see where the Roach are being caught. If you can not find this info I would recommend fishing light with just the basics and leap frog the swims, only spending 15 mins in each swim until you find some action. This style of fishing will also keep you warm as you are on the move. It will be hard work and at the end of the day you will be knackered but it will improve your chances of a few Pike

Re: No matter where I go there isnt any pike!!!

Hey I blanked well over 30 times before I caught my first barbel.
I'm after pike too this year and am blanking at that too.....persistence and optimisim.

The lessons you learn while you blank are eclipsed when you start to crack it and catch by design. any numpty can go to an overstocked carp puddle and catch (though thankfully I think these places are on their way out), it takes commitment to catch otherwise. A victory hard fought and gained is so much sweeter.

Keep going mate, you will get there.

Re: No matter where I go there isnt any pike!!!

Hi PH....You know what m8? Done pike fishing for nearly 12 years that was about 25 years ago...Got lots of high double fish my PB (and still stands) 32lbs .5oz caught at Beeston lake in Norfolk. Then gave up pike fishing (personal reasons) but still went fishing for Carp mainly, but loved to catch Roach/Bream.

Now, this year 2010, during a summer fishing trip for whatever came my way.. Carp/Roach/Bream.....I had, be it by accident/Fluke/act of god ....5 yes FIVE pike...all taking either Maggots, worms, even would you believe, Carp PELLETS!!! All pike were very good weights (7lbs, 9lbs, and three over (I would say..12lbs coz I left my scales at home that day)....Well, PH.....That got me BACK INTO Pike fishing, and spent over £450, on rods, rod pod, alarms, pike tackle, the lot.....
Been pike fishing now this winter...over 22 times, at 12 different places here, in Norwich, and surrounding area, about 50 miles radius ......and NOT ONE bloody PIKE!!! Tried live bait, dead bait, on every rig, spinning, and not ONE bloody PIKE!!.......All I can say about that m8 is: They ARE there, I know, had them in the summer, but your not alone m8....We have it bad too. Just never give up, I shall never ever, stop fishing...Blanks Blanks, let em come :) Got a PB to beat of 32lbs......Keep yeah chin up m8...Then it will happen :)

Tight lines m8 :)

Re: No matter where I go there isnt any pike!!!

Sounds like you are fishing too many rods and being static because its a ball ache to move everything??

i use 2 or 3 rods, 1 or 2 dead bait with different baits on and while they are out i spin which can wake the pike up a bit. If nothing comes along in 30-60 mins i move swims and keep going until i run out of time/swims.

Smelt or sprat work very well where i go.

The fish will be there but if heavily pressured then will become wary of many deads or lures.

It will take time so stick with it.
