help! I was ledgering my local river for chub with a lump of spam the other day. When i retrieved it to try another spot about a foot long section of green spotty fish flew out of the water at it! I'v never caught a pike before and never really tried but after this I want to! Can anyone give me an idea of the best way to catch it? It is a very small river about 10ft wide and probably about 3ft deep. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: help! You could try spinning for them or by fishing dead and/or live bait ( if your water allows) Sounds like spinning would be a good option as you had that fish follow lump of Spam

Re: help! you can buy a pike trace, and attach the spinner or plug to it. then just cast and retrieve, good luck and tight lines

Re: help! Already made or you can make your own if you get into piking go for something between 12" and 18" anything less and theres a chance the pike will bite through the line. Please make sure you have the correct gear for unhooking pike large forcepts, long nose pliers and cutters for cutting trebles. Would recommend flattening barbs on lures this aids the unhooking process. A decent sized unhooking mat If you can team up with someone to show you the ropes with regard to unhooking until your confidant to do it on your own some people use a gloved hand when unhooking to protect there hands during unhooking. Try to go for a fitted glove as large garden gloves can cause damage to gills, i have not used a glove for many years now for the reason i have mentioned but unless you are confidant with pike i would protect yourself. They may look tough but they really are very delicate fish so get them back in the water as soon as you can. Once you catch one you will be hooked.
