Re: pike will not take

keep at it

you are doing the right things if they are following, it sometimes takes several passes before they take properly

Re: pike will not take

I had same problem the other day, which I mentioned in my last post. Its annoying, particularly if its a large pike. I tried letting the lure sit there static for a while, then twitching it, then yanking it, varying speed of retrive etc but nothing enduced a take. One fish appeared at least 2/3 times to have a look, and then disappeared. Despite casting lots more, and having a go about an hour later when I was passing that swim again, the pike still didnt take, yet I had other pike take the lure on the same day so the lure was obviously working. I guess its all part of the fun of lure fishing for pike!

Re: pike will not take

*twitych a deadbait through the swim , if he follows to the bank just drop the bait on the bottom then give him 10mins, if he stays he may take it .
at the end of the day a lure is just a bit of metal or plastic when it stops moveing .
he's following the lure so he's interested a bit, at the bank the lure slows or stops and he looses interest , have you tried, once hes following , to retrieve the lure so fast that the pike can't catch it?, trust me , it can't be done if the pike really wants the lure.
and the extra speed often enduces an 'its getting away ' attack.
if that don't work try the above* as then at the bank the fish bait smells of food although its not moveing and the pike might just pick it up , give them a little time to think about it though.

good luck.

Re: pike will not take

A great answer geejayy and can not really add much to that apart from what has already been said, if the Pike are not up for it, move on and find Pike that are. Great topic!

Re: pike will not take

Just read through this thread again, and as carpmad says above, - a good, informative reply geejayy. Am hoping to try again this weekend and see if I can entice the follows to take..
