River Bann/Newry Canal, Portadown - 23/10/10

Me and my mate are heading out this Saturday morning for a days Pike fishing. I am buzzing at the thought of it already! Literally CANNOT WAIT! I'd like to be there and setup for 7.30am but we'll just have to wait and see if that happens lol.

I have bought myself a few wee bits & pieces for it. Ordered some Daiwa Sensor Brown 15lb line for my reel. (I have 18lb clear on it but i dont like it at all) - So sticking to what I know. My other reel has 12lb Daiwa Sensor Brown on it and haven't had a problem yet so the 15lb shouldn't give any trouble. I also bought a Daiwa Line Loader, not because I needed it, just because it looked handy lol. I bought a couple of floats (no need for them at all but i always buy them for some reason) and a couple of banksticks + butt grips because I cant be bothered building my rod pod. So Tesco's on friday after work to grab some fresh sardines and mackerel and thats me sorted!

We'll be leaving mid afternoon I'd imagine to get home/changed and hit the town that night. Anyway, I'll hopefully *FINGERS CROSSED* have something nice to report!

ROLL ON!

Tightlines Stuart, if it was sunday i might have thought of popping down to join you but football commitments have to be kept!

You will find the new mono will be a nightmare on your first few trips, takes a while for it to really 'settle in'!

Yeh we will have too!

I use green 18lb sensor on some of my reels and it seems fine, maybe you got a dodgy spool. You should save up and get some braid though, cause its the dog's!

Re: River Bann/Newry Canal, Portadown - 23/10/10

NIGHTMARE!

We arrived and were setup for shortly before 8am. After the rain the night before the river was just completely brown with mud and there was floating islands of weed along with trees flowing downstream. So from the off it wasn't looking good. In fact the only time my bite alarm squeeled was when a floating tree caught the line.

We sat till about 2pm with not as much as a run. Absolutely gutted. We tried spinning as well but no joy there either.

I have a few pics of the day but haven't bothered taking them off the camera yet. Not that there's really much point!

This pike fishing is getting to me again!! Grrrrrr

i passed the "coffee Bann" on my way to a wee lake that provides the goods regularly, one look at that Bann was enough to know it was a waste of time, youll be better to hit it when shes going down and the esox are on the move again..anyway me and the wean managed an afternoon with 5 and 4 dropped , the biggest was this low double which fought like a lion

old toothy

back to the same spot tomorrow for another rattle at it
