| eventually....a spell of good luck!! where do i start....? lol, well i dont know about you guys, but the start of the year was absolutely rotten for me! i was going fishing regularly and having no luck at all through the cold weather, i blanked from december through to march if i can mind right!! and i'd tried everything, from bait presentations, different baits, finding depths of the water i was fishing as well as any drop offs, lure fishing, i was puting alot of effort in, with no results. i travelled up and down the country, but never got so much as a bite, though my mates had pulled the odd one in, including a twenty and a few doubles. Well the past few months has been better to me, first decent fish of the season came in july when i got a new pb on loch vennacher, caught while trolling a small lure. [IMG] [/IMG]weighed in at a little over 15lb. it was a long fish, but just didnt have a gut to it! the fight was brilliant though, took me a good 20 mins before she was in the net. next thing in my sights was a twenty! well... a couple of weeks ago saw the best days fishing of my life!! lol, i got my mate early doors and we headed out to a loch with the intention of getting a days fishing. the weather was typically scottish.....p*ssing it down!! with all the gear set up, it was about an hour before i got a take.... and missed it, not to worry though, my time would come! it must have been late morning when my mates alarm went. one 'bleep' followed seconds later by the line tearing off the baitrunner. after a good scrap we landed a beauty, 24.7 lb and in perfect condition and the biggest fish id seen, it was quickly unhooked on the mat and put back to fight another day. apologies, but i do not have a picture of it! later on, mid afternoon, i had a run on my right hand rod, and landed a nice 10lb fish [IMG] [/IMG]as i was unhooking it we heard my mates alarm, in the swim further down, so he raced to get his rod while i returned the fish. i went down to find him battling with what seemed like another monster on the end of his line. so i got the net and mat ready. it looked of similar size to his previous fish but definatley a different one, and weighed in at 24lb. i was chuffed for him, but started to want a biggie myself.![]() so after returning it, rods were back out in the water until around 6pm with a couple of jacks getting caught. the light was starting to go, and we had one crap torch between us, but we decided to give it a couple of hours til dark. getting up the road was gonna be a nightmare! around half 8 i asked my mate if he fancied heading, but he wanted to give it another half hour. just as he had said it, a single bleep from my left hand rod went off. it was quite windy, so i presumed it was the bobbin in the wind. i went down to investigate anyway, so stood at the rod for a couple of seconds until the line started to move out very slowly, followed by another bleep or two. the bobbin dropped off, so i lifted my rod and tightened down, then struck into it, or more it struck into me. this was the first big fish i was playing on braid and i felt everthing. quickly, the fish started to take line from my reel with the rod bent over good style! i couldnt have stopped it if i wanted to! i soon managed to get a bit of line back, very slowly, but it was coming. this beast was staying deep, until around 20yards out where the water came up to about 8ft. there, it broke the surface of the water with a slap of a big tail and decided she was off for a run again. after another 20 mins she was in the net. and i could tell it was a big beast. quickly onto the unhooking mat, i detatched the snap tackle and zipped it up. scales at the ready, it weighed in at 33lb 8oz, but allowed 2 lb for the wet mat. i was F***ING gobsmacked! double checking the weight with my mate, i then unzipped the mat and took a short video. the light was very poor, and this video does no justice to this fish, but i will upload it if i can? i unhooked it rather easily and took her back to the water, where we failed in an attempt get a picture. so after laying her in the water, it took around 15 mins of holding the fish by the tail before she confidently kicked back then off to the depths. we caught about a hundred pound of fish that day and i dont think i will ever have as good a day in my life. so i started to think, now that i'd caught a 30, what would my next target be? a 30 is a fish of a lifetime to me, and wont be surprised if i didnt catch one for a long time, if at all. so i set my sights on a 20, saying as i still hadn't caught one. well, last weekend i went to another loch with my brother, at silly oclock on the friday night. we left about 11 and were bivvyd up at the water for 1am. funny thing is, we rarely catch at night, but we were up for it anyway! so with the rods in the water, it was a few hours before we heard an alarm while sitting in the bivvy. it was my alarm, and a very similar take to the 30 the week before. after a cracking fight, we got her in and weighed... [IMG] [/IMG]24lbs the picture is poor quality, taken from my fone, and the torch didnt do too much for it. but clearly a nice specimen, at 24lbs. next thing on the shopping list is a good camera, with flash! But what should be the next target?? thanks for your time if you've just read this, i think ive got a bit carried away...but am still buzzin ![]() (sorry for the background being blanked out) |
