Flavours and oils for deadbait

I have heard some anglers use additional oils, or flavourings to make their deadbaits more attractive, with more scent etc.
Can anyone recommend which ones to use - as I read somewhere that some oils or flavours are no good in winter as they dont disperse etc due to cold water.
Browsing online I see there is Van Den Eynde Predator Plus liquid, and also pilchard oil, halibut oil etc are also used, but was unsure if they are ok to use in winter.
Thanks..Baz..

plain old cod liver . mind you i have never noticed any difference in my catch rate when using oils

try a alka selzer in the fish , the bubble make it bounce around in the water .(use on dead baits )

Re: Flavours and oils for deadbait

i have used oils here and there with varying results,
my favourite method is a small foam filled swim feeder filled with smelt oil,
it has saved a blank or two

I have used various oils, ie , pilchard sardine cant say noticed much diff ,, however colourings work as well baits sprayed red or yellow or buy food colouring and soak your baits in it before freezing.
Two pike last week on red smelt was it the smelt or was it the colour who knows trial and error ,, good luck

Look for oils that say "winterised". These are designed to be used in low temperatures and can be excellant in the colder months. Any other oil used in the colder months wont be as effective because it wont dispearse from the fish as quick - they "clog up" in the fish for want of better phrase because they solidify!

I use Predator Plus and have had some good sessions - it has outfished plain baits many times. Again i tend not to use this when we get continuous cold weather and swap over to "winterised".

Re: Flavours and oils for deadbait

I use this stuff called 'Devil's Delight' which i bought of ebay and also van den eynde Predator plus.

Hard to know if it really helps but i guess it does.

Inline with what paul has said, a swimfeeder with chopped up fish seems to help.
