Decent Dead Bait Rods

Im Looking To Buy Some Decent Mid Range Dead Bait Rods Any One Got Any Good Advice On Makes Etc

Hi mate,
When you say DEAD bait rods what do you actually mean, do you mean beachcaster, bass,uptide,spinning.......etc.
Can you be a little more specific as there are so many different types of rod available.

first of all ,welcome to the forum,you have come to the best place.

pike rods, i don't use pike rods,i use carp rods,i think that any rod with a test curve of 2 1/2 or 3 lb or even 3 1/2 lb will be man enough for deadbaiting,you will need a beefy sort of rod if you intend casting out baits such as whole herring or mackerel,if you are going to do that i would advise using a shock-leader.
casting a big heavy weight can put enormous strain on lines usually in the region of 10 to 15 lb b.s.

i can't point you in the direction of makes of rod,to be honest i have no idea what is on the market,the rods i use for piking are 15 years old and i don't change unless i have to.there are others out there who will help you more.

Like Paul, I use carp rods too. Test curve of around 2 1/2lb

The makes of rod me and my mate use are Ron Thompson and Leeda.

I use a 3lb carp rod - I know there are rods on the market that are labled Pike / deadbait specials ect but a blank is a blank and the fancy names are there for a price hike ( maybe Im wrong )

What you want to think of is what size you normally use for deadbaits - are they sprats / herring / roach / rudd or a whole mackeral as this is the wieght of your bait and that means what action you will need and LB

Action of a rod - basically you have through action medium action and tip action ( this may have changed since I last bought a rod )

But I like to fish with a tip action / stiff action as it can handle the bigger bait and you can stike at distance

Hope this makes some kind of sense as it been a very long day fishing for me and the first beer has hit my toes

Dear rods dont make for more fish ! I also use 2 - 3 lb TC carp rods for deadbaiting but for spinning i have a 60gm rated plugger rod by wychwood (9FT) for working jerk baits ,plugs ,spoons ,rubber baits and spinner baits, My 12 ft carp rods are also by wychwood .Excellent range by the way !!

I think richard hit the nail on the head, the name of the rod dont matter that much, the price is everything.
I use 2 1/2lb test carp rods, they can take the strain of huge pike and give you a great fight.
dont buy the cheapest rods as they wont last that long and dont buy the most expensive as they dont make you a cup of tea or keep you company during a fishing trip, they are just a means of getting your bait in the water and 500 quid for a rod is a wast of money in my book.
You want to be paying about 100-150 pound max for a rod.

Yeah thats what i was getting at in my post....... 100-150 is enough for any rod as long as it puts bait in the water and pulls fish out !!
