Re: Will this set-up do??

The solid one mate, the fox micro or simular are ideal, the chain ones will move about in the wind giving false alarms etc...

Re: Will this set-up do??

Thanks Headless, I thought the chain ones would give more flexability, but now you have said that it deffo makes sense! thank god for forums!! just been looking at them there around 12 quid so wont hurt my wallet too much ;-( only thing I thought with them is that as the arm is solid and cant be altered I may have had trouble as I presume the clip will attach just below my bail arm when its open but u will deffo know more than me! strange really as a carper as ive always shyd away from alarm and indicators as I love using the quiver so in that respect ive never used them belive it or not! will be nice to chill out and not get eye strain and headaches though!! (of course I realise I have to watch the indicator etc!) Thanks again il go off and buy one now lol ;-) think il get the one where you can add/remove the weight to suit!

Thanks

Matthew.

Set your rod so the clip is below the spool of the reel, I prefer to have the hanger set half way between the reel and the ground, I feel you can see more as the bite developes, most takes should be positive, straight up and out of the clip. make sure you get the swinger with the screw adjustment. You can set it as sensitive as you want then or tighten up if there is some flow on the water/the wind picks up

Most have a sliding weight on them, its just a case of moving the weight to get the balance right. Pike tend not to be tackle shy so dont worry too much about setting the weight and clip, what ever you are confident in

I used to do a lot of Bream, carp etc.. fishing and still do the odd trip and enjoyed watching the float/quiver tip. I never had a alarm but sitting in one position using poles and watching the tip etc...did not help with my dodgy back so I now spend 70% of my time targeting Zander, They can be very finiky so using the swingers set very sensitive has helped me put more fish on the bank

Good luck mate

Darrell

Thanks for all your help and advice guys! most of my stuff has come now, im just awaiting my rod! gona use my crappy fladen reel untill I get in to it then il buy a decent one, mainly coz it's spooled with 20 quids worth of braid lol! all thats really left for me to do now is get out and give it a go!! cant wait!! ive spent a chuffing fortune! I bought both the fox butt hanger and the fox micro indicators just to be on the safe side and to see which I prefer lol!! My final question before I hit the bank is, do most tackle shops sell roach as dead bait?? a guy at work I was chatting too said he isnt aware of any that sell roach! would really like to at ;east have it in my cool box so its there if I want it!! dunno what the policy's are on cathing one and using that??? but to be fair I wanna be piking! not getting my waggler/feeder rod out to try and catch some bait lol!! has anyone got any tips on what dead baits tend to have better results? oh and as ive never bought dead bait, how much am I looking at?? final questions I promise!! I will deffo come back to let you guys know how I get on once ive been! (even if I dont catch lol) THANKS!!

Re: Will this set-up do??

Hi guys, just been to shop and bought somke lamprey, sprat & skimmers, (they dident have any roach) my question is a quick one ;-) they come as im sure you all know blast frozen in a pack, how is best to deal with this? do I simply freeze it all as it is or do I take each fish out and wrap it in clingfilm? or do u only do that for fresh fish i,e makrel from tesco lol, also once i load up my coolbox/bag can i refreeze and unused bait? or try and take just enough? the packs say hook em up whilst still frozen, and for the sprat use 3 or 4 fish a time!! they can nob off!! i take iy i can cut the lamprey in half then use etc? im going off on one now! any help with the bait mentioned will be great! just waiting for my rod and then im off!! cheers fellas

Matthew

Re: Will this set-up do??

i would never refreeze bait mate ,

Normally you just freeze the full packs , but you may be lucky and separate them to wrap as individuals

Re: Will this set-up do??

Like Nick says, separate them into numbers you think that you will need for each trip, I use the sandwich bags from Tesco, you dont need to use a separate bag for each bait, just one bag for what you anticipate to use for one session

With Lamprey, I would have a few nice sized baits for the hook and dice some sections for freebies and freeze the rest for the next trip

I used some Eel sections last night, never had a run on them so wasted 3/4 of a pack at the end of the session. It is rare for me to buy baits now esecially on the way to the venue as you do waste so much
