Re: Will this set-up do?? you will require a progresive action rod for distance work, you mentioned that the local angler was getting bothered with pike close in on the res, If the pike are close in a through action rod would be better casting wieght of 4oz....not sure, to cast any distance you will require a 3oz weight plus the bait, a small Roach wil weight a couple of oz, you are over the casting weight. If you only need to cast thirty yards or so then the rod would do I am no expert on Pike fishing at distance so I may be wrong with the casting weight Darrell

Re: Will this set-up do?? Hi found one review, for the money looks very good Daiwa Sports - Friday 07 May, 2010 [ 5 of 5 Stars! ] Available for under £50, the three models in the range feature low profile soft touch grips, a half hood reel seat, and low friction aluminium oxide guides. Its easy to see why a number of anglers have been left impressed when using them out on the bank, including our own carp consultant Brian Skoyles Having initially seen the Black Widow Rods at a trade show last year I knew that if they performed anywhere near as good as they looked, they would do very well. I immediately ordered a set of 2.75tc, and looked forward to using them. Frozen ponds made life a bit difficult to start with, but now spring is here at last I have been able to put them through their paces and the tradeshow impressions have been confirmed on the bank. Nice action, both for casting, and for playing fish. I am using mine with a Regal 4000BRi reel, and the balance is excellent. Andrew Dickinson, from Gillingham in Dorset has also been in touch to report a session to remember on Mayflower Pool in Southern France. Fishing PVA bags at range Andrew told us of a multiple fish catch topped by a superb 47-10 common. Andrew was using the 12ft 3.25tc Black Widows and said the rods were a delight to use, and absorbed the powerful lunges the fish made during the fight with ease. I would recommend these rods to anybody. If you are looking for a quality, budget rod, then the Black Widow just might be exactly what you are looking for.

Re: Will this set-up do?? Hi guys (me again ;-) dont sigh ;-( ) Just to let you know ive sent off for the above rod, £33 quid inc p&p!! for that price even if I use it once a year it wont be wasted! (of course I plan on using it much more!) ive also sent off for some hand tied traces at 18 inches with size 2 size 6 trebles, adjustable too to fit diff size baits ;-) hope these are ok! little bit more advice before I hit the bank please! what size lead am I lloking at using?? I know this depends massivly on the casting range etc but any help will do, when I was at the res and saw the pike taking hooked fish the fish were about 1lb roacg so im gona try and find a local tackle shop that sells roach (I guess its better to use a bait thats found naturally in the water im fishing) other than this im going to fish a section of the canal, im more looking forward to the canal for some strange reason! my plan here is to pop the bait up with some small pieces of poly put down my chosen bait as its very weedy in parts, thats the plan anyway!! only thing I need to buy now is an indicator?? I plan to attatch this to my rear bank stick and clip it tight to my line with the bail arm off as some have surgested, dont laugh but I havent got a clue how they work!! if you adjust it enough to grip the line how will it 'drop off' on a take?? I looked at the micro fox ones as mentioned in this thread but they all seem to have solid s/s arms?? would a chain version be better?? sorry for all my questions guys!! any help will be appreciated ;-) Thanks a bunch Matthew

Re: Will this set-up do?? Attch a laRGE paper clip to some line , they tie one end to your rear bank stick . then , bend the paper clic to a right angle , when you have done that rest it on your line ,, or a cork with 2 knob pins in it you dont need all this fandangled stuff

Re: Will this set-up do?? A good idea from Nick, however I would use a swinger on the rear rest, if its windy you won't get the line pulled from the clip, if using a front alarm you won't get the buzzer going all day long and you can adjust the tension Darrell
