Gave up Piking...

I've thrown in the towel. I've been trying for Pike regularly since April/May time and haven't got as much as a bite! I've tried different methods (Float, off the bottom, popped off the bottom) plus ive used a range of baits. But no joy. Maybe its the weather? I dont know. But i'm quitting pike fishing til september or so. I'll stick to my roach, perch & bream from now til then. Im sick having to carry about all my piking stuff for me to not even get a bite.

Im actually quite enjoying fishing with the quivver tip at the minute anyway!

Re: Gave up Piking...

You musn't have any luck! in the past month i have had 2 twenties and no blanks! (not boasting ) i had a dozen the other night off my tube aswell. So my advice would be to keep at it and don't give up.

Keep fishing the Bann about your way, there are good pike there, trust me on that one,

Re: Gave up Piking...

Dont give up Pikehunter, your time will come. Take a break from piking, and try some other species? This winter just gone was my first proper piking winter, and I only had a few jacks, cold fingers and numb toes to show for it, and a lot of more experienced pike anglers struggled too. Best thing to do is keep using tactics, bait and locations that you are fairly confident in, as confidence is half the battle, and the fish will come in time.
Alternatively take up stalking BW, as he seems to be the lucky one at the moment

Re: Gave up Piking...

I feel stupid writing that post now because i'm going again on Saturday! lolol. But i seriously was going to quit until i heard some news last night...

You may remember this post from last year...

Loughgall

Well we decided to go there again to try for silvers, and jesus i've never seen as many in my life, everywhere you looked they were rising! We caught a right few bloody big roach! But while we were there we heard a story of a fella who was piking fishing last week and accidently hooked into a 26 lb carp! We also heard that a 15 lb pike was caught in it a few hours before we got there!

So my cursing this place up and down was all done in vain! lol. Hearing these stories has built my hopes up again, so a few of us are heading tomorrow morning all being well! Gona stick a pike rod out and try for a nice bream or some more nicely sized roach on the quivver tip.

Here's the spot anyway...

Oh and Justin - you're just too good lol. As for the Bann. I'll maybe give it another rattle sometime! But I really don't like it, full of weeds, bottles, and trolleys. lol
