Rewarding Day by the Lake

With less than a week until my first AS-Level in school i was hoping to get my head cleared with a day at the lake.

So to make the most of the day we set off nice and early at 04.30 and headed up the road in my friends tractor with the tackle trailer in tow

Today was a bit of an experiment aswell cause i bought some DB perch yesterday and this is something i wouldn't usually consider but i was forced too, cause the tackle shop had limited stocks.

It was near perfect conditions, maybe a little windy if anything but really not far from perfect so we set up with 3 rods at the beginning; all running ledgers with perch, trout and mackerel as bait.

It wasnt long before we had our first fish and it was on the perch which was a first for me! Was a VERY lively 6.5lber! and at 5.30 in the morning a pike like that one really wakens you up , it tail walked, took late dives, you name it, it did it. It even gave me a shower when i was releasing it

The next two pike came with in half an hour of each other at around 10ish, one on the trout and another on the perch. They were 7lb and 8.5lb respectively.

Needless to say i was very happy with the perch and will definitely consider buying it again and this time not as a last resort.

That wasn't the last of the fish. We had noticed a pike that consistently was chasing fry and generally just splashing around in a reed bed that runs into the middle of our swim like a sort of bar (you can see it in the photos of the fish). So i set up a float rod at about 15.00 with the strongest braid we had and put a perch right in the middle of the rushes. We were sceptical of even getting the float back never mind hooking the fish and landing it, but the luck seemed to be with us and with in 5 minutes of casting we had the the fish hooked and got it 'hauled' (there isn't really another word for it, cause we had to bully it) out of the reeds.

No pic though cause i forgot to charge the batteries of the camera , was 6lbs on the button.

Was a very enjoyable day all round,

BW
