Fishing on pike - the basics!?

Oke, I am a beginner at fishing, so bear with me :P

I want to know what's the best setup for fishing on pike, I know somethings, like needing a good long leader, good unhooking equipment, landingnet, and ofcourse varying lures.

But what type of line is best to use, do I need to know more when starting to fish on pike. I am a fast learner, though I need help in the begin.

So yeah, help me out, to catch pikezilla!

Until you have some experience and confidence I would recommend fishing with someone who knows what they are doing. Pike are very fragile and easily damaged if handled incorrectly.

Re: Fishing on pike - the basics!?

Yeah I know, but from what I've heard the pike around here are a bit stronger than the pikes around other places of the world.

Though you're right, I've been told by someone who knew a technique called the gillgrip, don't know what it's called by you guys. But that technique is definately the best way to handle a pike, while supporting their belly.

I have fished on some roaches before, not anything spectaculair, but I don't get freaked out when they go "wild", unhooking goes fine. I just need to know some things for the setting up your equipment, for the most comfortable and safest way for catching pike.

I also go outdoors occasionaly, to find other anglers, and ask them for tips and advice, and whatnot. There are alot around here, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

Still any information, tips, advice, techniques, etc, is much appreciated!

Edit: Oh yeah, I also no about their teeth, also the technique I mentioned can be applied to open their mouth, and unhooking that way is much easier.

Re: Fishing on pike - the basics!?

It's illegal to fish with live bait here, so unfortunately I can't do it. They thought it was animal abuse, so they made it illegal...
