A tactical query Has anyone heard of or used Blood (cows blood from butchers e.t.c.) in a chumming manner with fish mixed in to lure the pike into your swim??? Do you think it would work?? I have started to fish for pike but between october and february I only managed to catch a 7 pounder and blanked on every other session so am desperate to try any technique Any input would be most welcome

| Re: A tactical query Alright Ryan, I use a mixture of pigs blood and fish oils when i choose to do what you have said, this is mixed with fish from previous sessions and bread... Seems to help but its hard to say... Last year i had 18 pike in the one morning-session with loosefeed/groundbait and the session previous to that i only had about 5 or less pike, although the week after i didnt loosefeed/groundbait and we had 25 including a PB at the time so that made me wonder was it really worth it? But its up to personnal preference, I would usually inject my baits with oils and i would say that helps but as far as other things are concerned its a bit of an unknown. | Re: A tactical query I have used chopped Roach and Rudd in ground bait to attract Zander and It has worked You may find that the area /areas you are fishing do not hold a good head of Pike, you can put as much bait as you want in but if they are not there you are wasting your time and money If you prebait an area over period of time you may find that your catches increase but I would suggest you find the Roach, Rudd and Bream shoals, the Pike wont be far away Trying a mobile approach until you find the Pike will help, match reports are good info, you can then concentrate on the productive areas, bear in mind that Roach etc... move to different areas at different times of the year, the pike will follow their pattern Darrell |

Re: A tactical query i have tried blood as an attractor for pike with very little in the way of success, i have however had great success when eel fishing, i was a butcher for many years and blood was easy to get hold of,one method that i found in an old angling book was to fill a cocoa tin with blood and seal it , then make a tiny pin prick hole in the side, chuck it in your swim a couple of days before you fish and the blood will slowly seep out, it attracted plenty of eels ,

Re: A tactical query Hi ive had great success with the same method this is what i did pop round to a trout farm and get the dead fish every day thay should collect the dead uns ask them to freeze them for you and give them 20p each you then mash them up with bran and makkrel from tescos you can also use ground bait mix and make them into balls go down to the swim two days before fishing and chuck the balls in so on the day you are fishing just top up with ground bait and sit tight you should catch you can freeze the ground bait up but you must put a stone in the middle to sink the ball my best fish using this metherd was 28 1/4 lbs tightlines Alain

Re: A tactical query I have heard of pricking holes in a tin of tuna, tying it to some line and chucking it out so the oils etc leak from the tin. You can then use the line to pull the tin back in to either dispose of it, or replace it. Pre baiting a swim seems to work better from what I have heard and read, although even if you turn up on the day and put some groundbait in, it cant do any harm, and if it gives you more confidence that you may catch then all the better. Nothing better for fishing than having confidence -
