Talking PB Broken Again

Well today was one of those days that you just knew you were going to get fish, the weather this week was warming the water up nicely and it was bound to encourage the what seem to be dormant fish into some movement!

The lake last week was unfishable with heavy rain and very high water levels, this week it was a different story, bright sunshine (which i know isnt ideal) and low water levels.

We headed off at around half seven when the sun was still fairly low in the sky and was still not full daylight, got to the lake about 5mins later and were greated with a near mirror like reflection on the surface.

We set up with the usual set-up for this venue; 3 Ledgered rods tight on the bottom, 2 with lamprey sections and the other with a mackeral tail.

Of late the venue hasnt been fishing awfully well with the last 3/4 times resulting in blanks, but we were definetly confident of change! There was just something in the air

Wasn't long before our first run and it ended in a very lively 2lb pike, it fought like a fish 3 times its size! It came to the lamprey, which incidently all the fish today did the same.

Was about 25 minutes later until the penultimate fish of the day, once again a very lively fish this time it weighed in at 4lbs.

The PB best was the last fish of the day at about 10 o'clock or so, maybe slightly earlier. It was a very exciting fight! wasnt the longest fight in the world but it certaintly got the heart going... it was the middle rod which we got it on and it was a cert to happen... it caught up on the 2 lines either side of it which didnt help things, also when we got it near to the bank we seen how lightly hooked it was, so i handed the rod to my partner james cause he isnt the best at gilling fish and the landing net wasnt set up sowe didnt want to risk loosing it, so i had to get in the water with my waders and gill the fish but at one stage it was more like wrestling! Cause there was still abit of fight left in her but there was no way i was letting go!

Weighed the scales down to a new PB of 25lbs exactly

We packed up shortly after cause the sun was very high in the sky and we didnt beleive there was any chance of another fish, so we went home for a bite to eat and then back to lake again after lunch to do a bit of general tidying up after the high water, and we ended up fixing our bank up and its now much better than it was before as you can see:

Excuse the thumb

All in all it was a very rewarding day!

BW

We honestly though she was a 30! it was the widest fish i had ever seen, must have been pushing 9 inches across...
