Thumbs up thank god its march

well i have had a nightmare through jan and feb, with only 2 small jacks on lures to show for it, and not for lack of hours or efort
and was seriously considering myself to be the worst pike angler ever

today the weather was looking good and its March!! so confidence boost if nowt else

so straight after work it was off to fave spot at the lime kilns, all looking good and all baits in water by 2.30

water condition looked good again now with clearing water

but things remained very slow , however hard i worked the baits arround

I did mean to do some spinning but although brought spinning rod left the lures at home ( muppet!!)

one last bait change just before 6 and i put what i think was a small rainbow trout on right hand rod out under the boats

just before 6,30 as getting very dimpsey one tiny blip on that rod, then 2 minutes later another single blip then Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr full run, i was on it and attatched to a fish!!!! ,, yes a fish !!!!
a good plodding fight and at last this plump 10 & 1/2lber is on the mat

ok still not my 20 but a proper fish at last this year

it was really deep hooked and took ages to sort but swam of strongly after

of course I stayed on till just after 7 but nowt else,,also head torch was dying and had no spare batteries and didnt want to try unhooking in the dark
but I left happy after lifting the curse of jan and feb

was also intersting to see guys back on the bank in bivvies for the carp and bream already, maybe spring isnt that far off now

Re: thank god its march

mate , nice fish ... i can completely relate to u... ive been out on a dozen sessions with 4 or 5 overniters thru in for good measure and i was having the same problem. after all that hard ice its been hard and i caught 1 wee jack on a smelt in january and nothing since untill today that is...

i went to a water ive known for years but never actually fished it as it is very snaggy but i got to it today and it looked mity fine and the signs of spring were showing, wildfoul courting, buds on trees etc etc....anyway, i had 2 dropped runs before noon then it died the rest of the day..that is untill i was standing eating my last sarnie thinking about packing up when suddenly my buzzer went and line stripped off the reel....what a feeling that was after having so little action since before all the ice but the feeling was even better when i landed my 1st double of the year...a low double at 11.5 lbs but i wuda been happy with 1 half that size but anyway i too will say...thank god its march...

and here she is , may there be more to come..
