Re: pike Hi Alan. I have heard rumours of pike in the Ley. I did post a similar question to yours a while ago, but nobody knew. I did speak to someone ijn a tackle shop recently who said there is pike in it, but as the Ley is not managed by anyone, it gets silted up a lot, and weedy, leaving very few clear spaces to fish apparently. I have pondered giving it a go one day, but was reluctant to get down there and find it unfishable or whatever. I should have gone down there before I sold all my beachcasters, and if the Ley was unfishable I could at least have fished off the beach.!! but aint got my beach gear any more. As you are probably aware, Slapton Ley is closed to anglers for a further 5 years again..........shame..

Re: pike Also the closest place will be Rackerhayes at Newton Abbot. There is one lake there for full members only with bigger pike in it, however there is also another lake at Rackerhayes which has got pike in it, mostly jacks with a couple of bigger ones which u can fish on a day ticket,(Speak to the staff at Tackle Trader shop in Newton Abbot and they will tell u about it, plus u can get the day tickets off them. Also there is Exeter canal, or there is also Retallick water, which isnt much further in travelling distance than going to Exeter canal I suppose, down by Winnards Perch (it is by the Wild West American Theme Park ---- Yeeehaw cowboy!!) and apparently has quite a few double figure fish in it, though I havent been down to try it myself. Also Trenchford Reservoir, up by Bovey Tracey has some large pike in it, very picturesque and scenic, but is difficult water to fish. Thats about it locally. The river Culm, and River Exe have pike too. Only placed I have fished so far is Exeter canal, though I just started pike fishing properly last Oct/Nov, and so far only had a couple of jacks but there are big fish in there. If you check through the various posts on pike fishing in the forum you will get quite a bit of info...see some of Pingu's posts, as he fishes the canal regularly, mainly at the Lime Kilns area

Re: pike Sorry to hear about Beesands..saves me a trip as I was planning to try it sometime..never mind. Not too much has been coming out the canal lately. There was a pike competion on 14 Feb, 18 anglers, all day, 1 fish caught about 8lb, so it aint producing much at the moment as far as I can tell. May get better in next few weeks if weather gets warmer.?? Dont know if Dynamite baits sell "Dynamite Sticks" ..LOL..
