Baitcasting Rod

I am thinking of changing to a 5ft 6in - 6ft 6ins baitcasting rod for lure fishing, mainly on canal/river. No more than 50g casting weight. Can anyone recommend a decent rod, that doesnt break the bank. There are several , ABU, DAIWA, BERKLEY rods in price range 25 - 40 pounds, which look as if they would be ok for the job, but problem is a lot of tackle shops dont stock baitcasting rods (typically u look on usa sites and they have hundreds!), so I cant really go and try them out in any of my local tackle shops, to see what action etc they have. I dont like to buy a rod without actually handling it first, unless I can get a recommend from someone as to a reasonably good rod. It will only be for occasional use, over the winter, as will be carping in summer, hence dont wanna spend vast amounts. Dont like too stiff a rod (did look at one in a tackle shop, but was up to 120g casting weight which was way too heavy/stiff action), so a rod that will let me enjoy both jack pike, but could handle bigger fish too should I be so lucky!. Local tackle shop says they will order any rod I see online, or whatever, but still would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks

Re: Baitcasting Rod

Hi I bought one of these and have had no problems and loads of fun with it. However I paid slightly less than that for the pair, from memory I think it was under £50 delivered from e-bay.

Re: Baitcasting Rod

Hi

Contact Gerry T from this forum, he is well into jigging and drop shotting,

I meet him on the Sharpness Canal and he spent so much time explaining rigs, methods rods etc...

I believe that 90% of his fishing is lure fishing and I know he will give you the best advise on rods etc...

Darrell

Re: Baitcasting Rod

Hi Darrell, I contacted Gerry T,and he gave me some sound advice, what a nice chap he is. I ended up getting a Team Dragon SE 1.98m 7-25g rod (£48 on special offer) and an Induron ID LX150 (left hand wind) baitcaster multiplier (£20, once again on special offer as they previously retailed at £70), both of which Gerry recommended. Waiting for them to arrive in the post...and will let u know how I fare with them!!
