Polaris floats for pike

Whilst fishing the other day, and clearing up the litter left by the previous angler, I found a Polaris float. Having never seen or used one before I googled it, and seems like a handy bit of kit, particularly as it means you dont have to plumb the depth etc.
Has anyone used them when fishing deadbaits for pike etc, in stillwaters, and more importantly do they do what it says on the tin, and lock into position etc when you pull the line tighter.
Didnt wanna fork out 3.99 each for them if they are not much good for floatfished deadbait..

Yes Baz, used Polaris quite a bit for deadbaiting, never had any probs - from memory, there are 2 line channels at the base of the float, for thick or thinner line, never used them with braid though so dont know how they perform with this type of line!

Re: Polaris floats for pike

they dont work on braid, they stick on the line without sliding up.
the stems are very weak and regularly break on the strike
apart from that their good

Re: Polaris floats for pike

Thanks for heads up ref braid Brian, but will be using mono. I noticed on the one I found that the bottom part was loose so glued it back in, and good as new.
