Can't wait any longer!

That's it I can't wait any longer. 3 weeks of freezing snow and ice and no fishing have taken their toll. I know although it's a lot warmer there's probably still a lot of melt water in the river system- I've just got to go, that's that.

I've made up some ground bait consisting of chopped sardines, bread crumb, a tin of tuna and an egg to bind. It stinks soooo bad I can't even keep it in the garage-it's in the back of the pick-up "maturing" til 1st light, then it's off to the Soar for a full days dawn til dusk fishing.

Report to follow, a man's got to do what a man's.....etc etc!

Cheers

Chappa

Thumbs down Re: Can't wait any longer!

What a disaster! I started at 1st light fully tooled up down at the Soar but to my horror it was in full flood, at least 3' high and ripping through at a fast running pace, looking like Willie Wonka's river! I then ended up driving out of the village the wrong way through flooded roads 2' under water. (God blessthe Mitsubishi L200 and her 4 wheel drive!)

The next 2 hours I drove a total of 80 miles county wide, looking for any pike water I knew, that would be fishable. King Lear's lake-frozen the Soar-flooded, Aylestone canal-still frozen. Eventually I settled on a gravel pit filled in right by my mum's house that I'd never fished before but was at least mostly un-frozen. I got my 1st rod out at 11 am! At 1pm I got a slow drop back bite on ledgered eel, but out of frustration I rushed the strike, got a bend in the rod but it let go, and that was that, BLANK!

Sorry it's not a happy ending lads but I'll check out the weather and try again later in the week. First though, I'll definitely do a recce on the water first!

Cheers

Chappa
