Thumbs up bury hill 28/12

well i had the pass , ands after lots of grovelling to mrs p i had her car as well , and i had my christmas bonus so it was Bury hill here we come

got there 7.30am and paid the kings ransom, was advised that lake was a bit icey but would clear,

so i went just behind the boathouse where at least i could cast to a clear patch( I lost a float that glued itself to the ice can see on ice here oops) with 2nd float now in water
my float just in clear at last

,

at 9am this float went off left and i had a massive struggle bringing a wee 3-4lb jack in through the ice( sorry pic on phone and cant get at moment) which i had to smash ice with net to get to a point where could land

at 10am the owner at last brought out the boat and smashed an area of lake free for us all( considering the guy is happy to take the kings ransom quick enough at 7,30 it took ages for them to have enough clear water for those that had paid)

it was all quiet for ages then , i had i good take from a fish that had grabbed the bait but not the hook so managed a free meal of mackeral belly

the people on the long bank were doing much better as were oin the sun for longer and the hotspot was under the willow you can see, where the guys had half a dozen jacks and one that went 10lb

another frustrateing day at bury hill,
i will one day get a session that warrents the cost here, but its still a stunningly beautifull lake and was a good head clearing day though( well untill i went to mates for christmas beers last night)

Well done on the fish, it looks a lovely place and you did well to get anything with the lake in that condition

Re: bury hill 28/12

Well, you did better than Steve and I did.....first we had to drive around for 1.5hrs to find a lake that wasn't frozen solid, then fishing for 5 hrs without as much as a sign of any fish. Oh well, at least we got out again

Bring on the Zander meet

Re: bury hill 28/12

I only fished the lake from a boat, and seem to recall that in the late '90's, it was pretty steep, but as it was an experience I was prepared to pay out.
How much is a boat now, assuming the lake is ice free.
Shocking news is that neither Steve or Claudia have posted about the fine service that bought some hot chilli saussies down to them on the bank. Sinful.

ticket price is £11.50 for one rod and £5.50 for each rod after
and frozen bait is £3.50 a pack, ended up doing £30 for the day some may think this not too bad but i'm used to £5 or £6 a day and its almost as much as exeter angling for the year

heres picture of the wee jack , very pale in colour

my last fish of 2009, now roll on 2010, theres a river with my name on it tommorrow
