Groundbaiting for pike

Hi
has anyone tried groundbaiting for pike. Reason I'masking is that I have been fishing a midlands park lake for a couple of months now with some success but the going has been slow. then a couple of sessions ago I tried a groundbait mix and caught my biggest pike (15lb7oz) from the pool and also the most fish in a session (5) Repeating the experiment on my next session resulted in a blank but that doesnt prove much as conditions had deteriorated. I shall continue the experiment over the rest of the winter but wondered if any other pikers had tried anything similar. I will post my results later in the new year but would welcome any information from other anglers
All the best
Chris

Re: Groundbaiting for pike

Yes ive done it and it makes sense as if you get more bait fish in your swim then surely the pike will switch on to the feed ?

When I was a kid an old guy who used to fish for perch on the Wey always tossed the odd ripped up slice of Mothers Pride into the swim to get the minnows and bleak out of bed!

...the perch were not far behind he'd say

Re: Groundbaiting for pike

using groundbait is a good method a nice oily fish and crumb
small bait fish will be attracted which along with the scent will attract the pike
have seen pike groundbait used with a method feeder

Re: Groundbaiting for pike

Have used it before and can't say it made any real difference... Had 18 pike using it in one session... Next session a week later i had 25 fish and a new PB, so as you can see it didnt really help at all! ... So I guess it all depends on the venue and conditions, but it's well worth a go!...

Tightlines,

BW

Re: Groundbaiting for pike

it works mate i found that u want to start baiting your swin or swins two or three days b4 you go + you dont want to put to much bait out as you mite over feed. i tened to throw 5 or 6 pieces of mixed sea fish out useing a bollie strick. me and i mate when last week down the river stour, north essex it was hard going but we still got 7 pike biggest just over 8lb , best bait was sadrines, we off again down the river for a couple of hours spining saturday afternoon for the warm up to ardleigh on sunday 10/1/10 for a day session
