Leaving it all behind me..... It's the week before Christmas so naturally I've had........ A corporation tax reminder A VAT reminder A letter from the tax man threatening me with court action over non-payment of NIC and PAYE (which isn't even due) And a letter from companies house threatening to strike my company into dissolution if they don't receive my accounts in the next 3 seconds. ![]() So I've decided to head off down to the weir-pool on the Soar for first light tomorrow morning, and get me some sleet covered pike. (God willing) What was it the the Romans said? "Nil illigitinum carborundum tu es desperandum!" Or something like that! Report to follow. Chappa

Re: Leaving it all behind me..... Yep, been there too. I actually got threatened by the HMRC once because they owed me 248 quid and if I didn't pay it within the next seven days they were going to take me to court. I can only assume to FORCE me to take a cheque they had not yet sent. That's why I decided to wait till we got rid of this lot before I start a new company. Roll on the general election. The next lot will be a bunch of lying bast@rds too but at least they'll be capitalist lying bast@rds. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: Leaving it all behind me..... I actually got to the weir pool nice and early, half an hour before sun up. The level was 6 or 12" higher than my last outing, but it wasn't crashing through the weir half as fast, so I was hopefull of a few fish. I got the ledger rod out with a joey mackerel in a likely spot, and the float rod with a gold sprat, to trot around in the flow. It was 0 deg C and a gentle breeze with a clear sky. Well a couple of hours passed and nothing. The sun was now up and the clouds came in. I changed the mackerel for smelt and the gold sprat for red, and changed locations every 20-30 min. Then around 9-30 the buzzer sounded, and in came the first fish, a jack of around 3lb. Nothing grand but blank avoided. I switched to smelt on the float rod and dropped the depth to near-bottom and missed a bite as I didn't use bait elastic, the soft smelt just tore through as I struck, so I made ammends and cast out again. Another fish on the ledger of about 4lb and I've caught this one before, it has a distinctive left lip which is large and bulbus and detached for most of its length so it flaps around outside the fishes mouth! Still no joy on the float rod so I changed tack and put a ledger on it too. All went quiet from where I'd had the bites so I launched both rods to the far bank where a tributary was breaking through, smelt on one and roach on the other. I had two more jacks early afternoon but by now was blessing the day I bought the peacock hand warmer. It was proper cold and my tackle box and net had frozen to the bank. By now I'd had sleet, snow hail and rain but was determined to stay and get the 5th fish which would be a best numbers wise. I got the head torch wound up and settled into the dark at 3.55pm. The last fish had come at 1.30 and I was starting to really feel the cold. By 5pm my patience wore out and I packed up and left, glad that I'd plenty of kit to carry as it kept me warm lugging it along the bank. It's a funny place this, elsewher in the river I've had reasonable fish to about 7lb, but in the weir-pool nothing worth a photo (over say 4 1/2 lb) and never in 3 visits have I had a fish after 1.45pm, or before the sun comes up? Despite the cold though, not a bad day and it took my mind off all the other s*@#*e in life for a few hours, and at the end of the day, that's why we do it. Cheers all Chappa

Re: Leaving it all behind me..... Nice report. The tax man is always good for a laugh. Last year I had a final demand for 1800 quid that they reckon I owed them from , wait for it...1899. That's 64 years before I was even born When I rang them to query it, the lady assured me there had been no mistake and that if I didn't pay they would take me to court! As there is a statutory cut off of six years I said bring it on! I'm still waiting
