Bite Alarm Advice

New to this forum so be friendly!

I don't have a problem with my rigs as i'm a fairly regular Pike Angler, however i've been brought up as a float fishermen in the Summer months so i have very little experiance with bite alarms and their general set up.

I have bite alarms and rod rests etc but they never seem to work, am i missing something? Is it essential to have drop off indicators or my reel set in a certain way? I'm tempted to buy some new alarms as i am almost certain my problem is with the standard of my alarms.

Basically i'd much appriciate it if someone could give me a crash course on bite alarms and how to set them up because they seem so simple.

Cheers!

Re: Bite Alarm Advice

Poor ones mate, i got them a couple of years ago as part of a set. I could pull at the line and they wouldn't make a sound but if the wind picks up they go mad.

Re: Bite Alarm Advice

Hi southtyne as nick says what alarms
all though do need the basic principle of some weight on the line either a swinger or chain drop of on the front with the baitrunner set
or a rear drop off indicator and bail arm open , otherwise the line will just pull out of the alarm slot and not register

for the pike i prefer the rear drop off ,but both systems work fine

Cheers Pingu.

I saw someone using a rear drop off and i think that may help my problem. What do you recommend a chain or a bar?

Basically what your saying is that i need the correct balance through the alarm so it doesn't slip out of the runner? Also do you believe it makes a difference what height i have my bank sticks at?

New member so be paitent##
You'd be best buying decent ones (eg,pro Logic's)cos no good having them in the first place if they don't work well. secondly you need some form of indicators on the line to signal when a fish is coming towards the rod tip otherwise it wont register the bite.
