going to grab my chance tommorow

with all reports of the weather closeing in big time again

and the date for returning to work rapidly approaching, looks like theres a wee window of opportrunity tommorrow morning, still going to be blowing a hooley though

so off to the canal tommorrow as soon as can get fat butt out of bed, somewhere below double locks as like chocolate above when drove past earlier

Re: going to grab my chance tommorow

sorry to say it was a big fat blank

but for info ( especially baz )

as was a strong southerly 30-40mph
i went to the lime kilns as can be sheltered on the main bank, would have preferred to head right but wind was howling through that section and too far on this poxy ankle( thats takeing too long to heal)

the track down is curently fine and supriseingly dry, but you still wouldnt want to take a porche down there as potholes are getting bigger

I had 1 strong take that wasnt there when grabbed rod( think i was a bit quick) the weed is still pretty dense and high , this could also be because that area is probably 2ft down on water lebel, wheras above double locks is nearly overflowing but like chocolate

to answer Baz questions in shout box .....

Where is the boathouse pingu? Is that by countess weir carpark? (yes thats the one) and... for Mark, or Pingu, I fancy taking my bivvy and extra rods down, but reluctant to leave them in the car for collection later (but would prefer to do bit of walking with lures/wobbly deadbaits for first few hours), and then set up bivvy and static deadbait rods for couple hours into darkness. Any safe areas to park and leave bivvy and some rods in car? As the Swans Nest and Lime Kilns carparks bit hidden and secluded, if u know wot I mean etc..

personally i would park in boathouse carpark baz as always on view, and ambulance /police regulary use as stopover point, although today my car was only car at lime all day , v quiet there

i will be back as soon as pos

Re: going to grab my chance tommorow

pingu, thanks for the info, and sorry to hear you blanked. It was the boathouse I parked at the first time I went to the canal, so I know where you are talking about now, and it is only yards from main road, and fairly busy carpark at times so possibly safest place to leave the gear in the car. I am learning all the various marks and parking areas for the canal, as only been there twice so far. May try Sunday, as weather may have abated a bit by then, and the lime kilns is bit more sheltered than other places, which are more out in the open. Think if I take bivvy and extra rods, will park at Countess Weir, and lure fish up and down that area, and can always drive round to lime kilns, or swans nest and set up for bit of night fishing, leaving nothing in car to tempt any thieves!. Dont think I will bother with bivvy etc this Sunday if I go, one lure rod and a static rod methinks. Is lure fishing (and wobbled dead baits) productive throughout the winter, or do you change mainly to static dead baits as the weather gets colder?
Better luck next time pingu...
Baz
