forty foot saved the day. Went for a days piking on Friday but it was really hard work.Day started off misty and cold, set off from crowland 8am, got to Thorney and my phone went .Girlfriend says you have forgot your frozen fish (bait). After a few swear words, quick turn of the car, race home... grab the bait and I was on my way lol.Eventually, after the bad start I hit the Whittlesey drains.I started off at Angle Bridge, had a few hours there - nothing doing. Even had my whip out for a bit of fun catching small bits n bobs until Mr Pike comes along. Not one bite.So I'm thinking I have got to go where the bait fish are, makes sense ay? So I get in the car and head for Ramsey Exhibition Bridge, I never fail there, WRONG lol.Same again, no pike no small fish so I moved on.I was on my way to Ravely Drain when I spotted some match fishermen on the stretch of river that leads onto Ramsey if any one will know where the bait fish are at they will.So after having a chat with one of the chaps who was also one of the Ramsey bailiffs it was very kind of him to put me on the Forty Foot and what a great afternoon I had.River was a nice colour had the pole out and I was getting a bite every cast.Had a net full of roach, perch, rudd and skimmers but the highlight of the day was when I hit into a 9lb pike and this pike really went.i have not had many pike tail walk on me but this one leapt clean out of the water - great sight. After some quick pics I returned her safely back to the depths. There was a young lad a few swims up from me who had a 10lb pike - good for him.I stayed on into darkness and tried for the zander but they were not out to play . I have tried putting some pictures on here but for some reason they won't upload ????Well that was a day out in the fens for me, my fishing season has started . FS.

Re: forty foot saved the day. FS, Great read. Congrats on saving your day. You can't upload pics direct to this site (as far as I know) Try opening a free account on photobucket.com. (Make sure you resize pics to no more than 700 pixels wide before uploading them there) Once a pic is uploaded, it gives the different html formats when you hover your cursor over the pic in your album, look for the img address, just copy and paste that here to show your pic

Re: forty foot saved the day. Yes it was a great read, well done...hope I have that sort of luck . Curiously enough I was talking to a chap who was feeder fishing The Middle Level near St Germans yesterday . He reckoned they had pumped off enough water to drop the level by a foot!!! Might well had some effect further up even as far as Ramsey
