Baitcaster

Iv'e been given a Tova 600L baitcaster reel, having never used a multiplier i could use some advise on what the dials and buttons are for, I'm absolutely clueless

yeah thanks, good article, unfortunately the tackle shop mentioned for advice closed down about a year ago

hello mate. i use multiplyers for most of my piking now and once you get the hang of them mate, they are a joy! the easy way to explane them are, 1. the star shaped thing near the handle is the clutch, as in when playing a fish,this should be set the same as a fixed spool,eg when the reel is engaged you can pull line with your hand at the resistance a fish needs to run to prevent hook pulls, 2. the small circular knob adds tension to the drum when casting, if you are using a heavy lure eg a jerk bait press your casting bar then tighten the knob so the lure only just starts dropping, this will prevent overruns, the same applys to lighter lures but tighten up obviously!!! make sure you have mono backing on you spool first if using braid or it will just spin on the drum, when casting keep your thumb on the spool to feel for overruns and to place the lure where you want it, good luck mate, practice makes perfect, tight lines....
