| Another Great Day and a Near PB Hi all We were planning to head off at 4.30am but that turned out to be a bad idea cause it was pitch black, so it was 5.30am by the we set off, i had been to the lough on wednesday for a session and it was badly flooded but i still managed a few nice pike, so even though the water was quite high yesterday we were still confident of a few fish. It took a while for the fishing to get started but it wasnt long before we were gettin runs, for some reason we were hitting a lot of runs and in less than 3 seconds the fish were gettin off, we were using semi barbed hooks on some traces and barbed hooks on others and it really didnt seem to make a difference and we had braided mainlines on one reel but again it didnt make any difference, also the hook layout was perfect on all the baits, can someone shed any light on the subject?? Well i decided to do a spot of spinning and i managed the first 2 fish on a red and white hi-lo plug, they were nothing massive but were great sport none the less, ![]() ![]() Then we had are first few pike on the deadbaits, which were a mix of lamprey, pollack and gurnard , lamprey produced most fish but we were only experimenting with the others. We must have had 3 fish to the lamprey and 1 to the pollack i dont think we managed any on the gurnard but it did produce a run. But it was about 11 or 12 o'clock when the real fun began, with a very timid run we struck into a large fish, we were thinking it could have been a new PB but it wasnt to be, it fell short by 3lbs, its was a very rewarding 18lbs fish, it fell to the lamprey and took about 15mins to land, as at one stage it was lodged up in some lillies and at another stage it heading for a bed of rushes!! so it was a great fight. ![]() I thought it was a bigger fish to be honest but i we are still thrilled about it none the less, BW __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release! |
