| Pike lures - anyone using spoons? Hi, I'm new to the forum and still quite new to Pike fishing. Does anyone use spoons and spinners still or is it mostly shads and plugs these days? What sort of weight should be I looking to get. At the moment I tend to use fairly heavy abu tobys to get a long cast. Any advice on some decent lures would be great. Thanks Norm |

| Re: Pike lures - anyone using spoons? hi norm, at some point in a days lure fishing i will use a spoon, they are a life saver in weedy conditions as the single hook is a lot less prone to snag. a spoon is very much looked uponas a bit "old hat" bit the fact is they have caught pike in their thousands, a heavy spoon can be cast a good distance with the added bonus of if you start your retrieve as soon as it hits the water it will work as if a surface lure which is good at this time of year. try sliding a grub tail onto the hook for some added attraction on whip on some tinsel ( red, green, silver work well) onto the hook shank,it all helps! also a book i can highly reccommend is "how to catch pike on lures" by james holgate which covers as aspects from jerkbaits to spoons and only costs about Ģ7.00 hope to have been of some help, tight lines... |
