| Early Start Once again it was an early start for myself and my fishing partner James, It was about 3.45am when we left my house to get to the bank for 4.05am, it really is a nuisance when gates are locked, and it takes a good 5 mins to lift the tackle and bikes over , but sure we were still down very early hoping for a repeat of last week. There was a very heavy fog when we set off and it was incredibly thick, so thick that my jumper and hair had actually got wet while cycling, it was nearly like a fine rain , i tried to take a photo with the flash but got a strange out come, as the flash highlighted all the molecules of water in the air :![]() Even though it was 4.05am or so, it was still incredibly mild and i only had a t-shirt on and was too warm, The fishing started slow on the pike front as we waited an hour for the first bite, but the action on the waggler was keeping us amused as it was nearly a fish a cast, producing some nice roach and rudd and the odd small perch. The first pike disrupted my silverfish swim as it made one huge run and went straight into it, lifting lillies and underwater weed in the process. It hit the sclaes at a rewarding 7 pounds ![]() Now that it was a bit brighter you can see the extent of the fog It was only 20 mins before the next pike and this time it was smaller at only 5lbs but all the same it gave a great fight, it even jumped over another one of our lines to save a tangle ![]() ![]() Action shot ![]() It was out of character for the lake as it was another few hours before the another pike, and it was just in time for my dad and brother to see as they had come down to see how we were getting on, so i passed the rod to my brother to let him have a bit of pike action. Even though it was only a small jack about 3 or 4lbs it sill knew how to scrap and he did well to fight it ![]() ![]() There was another 2 fish caught in thier presence both weiging just under the 10lbs mark, both fish caught float fishing a roach at the edge of a lilly bed (it seems to hold a large number of pike) We were just packing away at about 3.00pm when James was retrieving a eel tail to break the rod down, when out of no where a pike grabbed it and put up a nice fight, it was around 6lbs in weigh, This pike made us wonder were the fish more interested in moving baits?? So i set up a plug on a spare rod and it was about 15mins after starting i had just hit into a nice fish, it was very hard fighting and as usual gave a terrific aerial fight. It was bang on the 10lbs mark and i had noticed that compared to the other pike had larger teeth than most of the others landed, they were huge ![]() ![]() ![]() After we had cast the surface into a froth we headed away and it was now an hour and a half later than first expected ![]() All in all it was a great days sport ![]() BW __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release! |
