Pike Traces...

Alrite lads,

I fancy having a rattle at making my own pike traces.

Could you's help me out with the stuff needed?

Trace Wire - Im looking at this stuff
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/POWERSTORM-10M...3A1%7C294%3A50

Crimp Pliers - I'm looking at these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tchlink:top:uk

I can get the hooks (size 4) no problem, but, I'm not too sure about the size of crimp I need?

Or is there any "packs" you can buy, with ALL the equipment I need to make them?

Cheers in advance

Re: Pike Traces...

size of crimp depends on the size of wire your using and is normally indicated on the pkt
as for hooks i like to use size 6 semi barbed trebbles for pike and 8s or 10s for zeds but i am starting to use single hook traces.

Re: Pike Traces...

i have had some trouble with crimps over the years, the ones i use now i buy in the sea angling section at the tackle shop,
the best advice i can give you is to test your traces thoroughly,i have a hooklength tester i think it is made by john roberts that i use to make sure the crimps work

Re: Pike Traces...

agree with paul make sure you test them
i found crimps that are too big just pull through too small and the wire wont go through when you double up
