anyone in west lothian fancy a piking day?

iv found a loveley loch just outside west lothian (top secret lol)
i went a couple of weeks ago, that weekend where the sun was shining (got sun stroke tho but thats a different story lol) went on the saturday and landed 2 nice pikies, not big uns as but i had one at just over 7lbs, enjoyed it that much i went back on the sunday and landed another 3, just jacks up to 4lb but great summer fighters
lost a few too but took a small waggler and landed some nice perch too up to 2lbs
anyone in the west lothian who are new to piking are more than welcome to come as you will be pretty much guaranteed to nail a couple of small jacks at least
also saw some nice wild brownier on the rise but never took my fly rod!!!
anyone fancy it ? there is no charge for the water and you wont see another soul there i can guarantee it.
lemme know guys it would be the perfect oppertunity fo you guys just starting out fot the piking, either pm me or reply to this thread, should be a good day out guys

p.s dont worry if you aint got all the piking gear as a light spinning rod should suffice plus i have all the wire traces etc....
whadaya thing guys, anyone up for it?????

Alright mate!

This is a long shot, as I live in leicester, but I've got a few days work at Edinburgh airport over the next 5 weeks, (blocks of 3, 4 days or so). I always take a car packed with fishing kit everywhere I go, Sooooooo, pm me your number and maybe we can get hooked up for a bit of "North of the border piking" The location sounds great, so as long as you don't mind dragging along a (half Irish) Englishman, I'm right up for it!

Chappa

Re: anyone in west lothian fancy a piking day?

if you really want the scottish piking experience id be willing to take you to one of the main pike lochs (loch awe, loch lomond, loch venichar.....)
those are a bit far from edinburgh but my top secret loch is only about a 20 min drive so yeah that would be great,i was actually there today and had a nice 8lber (not bad for a summer pike) tail walked an all!!!! also had a couple of smaller guys averaging 3-4lb
what kind of fishing are you most into as i can get a couple of decent salmon beats for as little as £25

pm sent

Hi Bud
I would love to try my hand at the pike. Do some sea fishing and mostly fly fishing. I'm in Edinburgh so not far from you.

John

Re: anyone in west lothian fancy a piking day?

Great

Can I ask my cousin along? we are both fly fishers and some Sea fishing from boat off eyemouth throughout the year. We have caught the occasional small Jack on Roseberry Res on the fly (not intensionally) but would be a nice change to fish for them properly.

Not sure when we can make it though as i'm sure he is off on holiday in the next week or so and I'm off to Florida for 3 weeks at the end of July...Bigmouth Bass watch out

When is best for you? I'll find out what weekends we are both free tomorrow when I see him.

What were you guys using as bait? Or were you spinning?

John

Re: anyone in west lothian fancy a piking day?

hey Gizzzer my friend, you are more than welcome to bring anyone you like along, the more the better!!!

we were just using deadbaits all day and we had one rod out with a couple of maggots on for the perch, which incidently did'nt show up the little blighters! thinking back we should have done a bit of spinning or freeline jerking with deads as the takes were mainly while reeling back! (oh hindsight lol)

im free anytime as im self employed and can just drop tools and lift rods so.....
anytime you like buddy the sooner the better for me. i'd fish it every day so any excuse will do lol

even if you get some free time before your cousin then just pop through and we can fish it first then go back next time. or i could take you to my local fly fishery for a couple of hours or a full day depending on yourself.

im a member of the fishery, its near bathgate and in MY opinion has the best fish, the most amazing evening rises you will ever see, and the opening hours are from 6am till midnight plus the prices are the cheapest around (£8 for 4 hrs, £13 6am till midnight C&R) the fishery tries to promote C&R as you will get some cracking over wintered fish, if you do want one for the pot tho you can pay £2 per pound. i release most fish anyway, i release ALL stocked fish and pike etc.. obviously. im a great believer in catch and release unless its a nice big bar of silver salmon of course lol also im a bit partial to the odd 1lb'er WILD brownie from hill lochs such as acre moore.
never really done much sea fishing so maybe you could invite me some time? iv heard sea bass are great for the pot! my catch and release beliefs are based on fresh water im not sure about sea fish though maybe id keep the odd one if you advised it? my dad lives in Dunbar and iv heard there is some great bank fishing for sea bass at tornress just never got round to trying it.

oh and dont worry about terminal tqackle for the piking as i have loads!!!
gimme a shout when you wanna go buddy and we're off!
