Pike/Carp Rods?

What exactly is the difference?

I seen a couple of 12ft 3lb TC carp rods at a good price. But i'm a piker and im looking into getting a pike rod.

Would carp rods do? or whats the score here?

Cheers

Re: Pike/Carp Rods?

well i use a pair of esp 3lb pike deadbait rods
and have also used some 2 3/4lb carp rods

the pike rods seem softer and more forgiving on the headshakes and lunges of the pike rather than the long pull of a carp, and more sensitive and lighter so feel everything

the carp rods will cast your bait further thats for sure and very happily land fish as well, only swapped last year as got a good deal

all round the carp rods do both jobs so saves you money

i'm just a tackle tart ;-)

Re: Pike/Carp Rods?

Cheers mate, thanks for the info. I'm still unsure though. Where I fish I wouldn't be casting that far anyway to be honest... I'm just more worried about the rod being strong enough!

I had also been looking at these Fox rods;
Deadbait Rod 12ft 2.75lb
Deadbait rod 12ft 3.25lb

Seem to be a cracker job and not too badly priced either!

But this deal i seen with the carp rods is still making me think. I could get a rod pod & bite alarms + the 2 carp rods for less than 100 quid!

While I am here, what sort of (decently priced) reels would you reccomend for pike rods?

Thanks again

Re: Pike/Carp Rods?

personally id go fof a carp rod if your on a big water, set up on a rod pod and dead bait using a bobbin instead of a bite alarm(set up in same way)and an elastic band around the handle infront of your reel to hold the line tight then you get to relax knowing youve got clear indication of a take,id only use pike rod on canals with lures and spinners

Re: Pike/Carp Rods?

good man. not sure if i'll be on tonight but sure i will get speaking to you about it at some point mate.

now, you say to go for a carp rod... my budget is quite tight to be quite honest. but i've came across some really cheap deals. how about this one...

http://www.mullarkeys.co.uk/coarse-f...thompson/9921/

Anyone know what that would be like? Or would it not be worth my while?
