| 11th May, Piking in N.Ireland this is my first report so go easy on me. lol We had planned on getting up around 8 or 9, to get a good start on things. But the pints the night before got the better of us and we never arrived at the lake until 2pm .It wasn't a bad day, the sun was trying to come out. We brought one rod each, with the basic float, dead bait mount set up. For dead bait we used rainbow trout, gutted and chilled overnight, we cut chunks off the trout and put a chunk on each treble hook. Within 5minutes of his first cast, my mate was into one. Meanwhile i was still trying to set my rod up this was his first we didnt have any scales so we were taking guesses at sizes. around 4/5lb i thought. After watching my mate pull out Pike after Pike with every cast he was now 5-0 up on me, when finally my float went under, the adrenaline shot through my body and i reeled him in. was a nice little fight when i seen how small it was. but there we have it i got my first fish of the day after about an hour or so. We stopped to have a bit of lunch around 4. And the weather began to turn for the worst , we didnt let that get us down, because we were catching plenty of pike. at the end of the day my mate had caught 10 pike and lost 2, and i had caught 6 and lost 7. This was my biggest, and also the biggest of the day My Mates biggest: all in all it was a great days pike fishing, with 16 pike caught between us.And more importantly 16 pike returned to the lake safely. This is where i am going to try my pike fly fishing. __________________ Fishing for a lifetime, not a past-time. |
