Re: where do i go?????

I can't help you on the location mate, but if I were you I'd find a guy local to you who knows what he's doing when piking, and ask to go along. It's quite a daunting situation to try and unhook a treble from a pike's mouth if you don't know what you're doing and don't have the right tools and skill. You may well end up hurting yourself, you'll definitely damage the fish, and you may end up regretting the whole experience and give it up before you've started

As for ready made traces, most tackle shops stock them and if you're not up to making your own they're pretty good. Making your own is not as dificult as you might think though, you just need the hooks, wire, crimps, sleeving and a crimping tool and your away. (you'd pick it up in ten minutes)

Re: where do i go?????

fished lommond a few times, if you dont know the water it can be hard going. try somewhere smaller with someone who knows pike fishing.
the whole loch lommond experience might put you off piking, though you might get lucky... if you know someone who has fished it for pike go with them.
all the best
Ross

Re: where do i go?????

if your looking for an easy rig start with a carp rod with a twenty two pound main line attach a free running weight about 2 -4 once tied to a wire tracer (shop bought ones are really good as i use them to ,set your hooks about six inch apart and go for mackerel as a bait leeve it to mature for a few days first pike love it, then set up a rod pod and find yourself a small piece of tubing that you can slip over your line (this will indicate a take later on) and set a rubber band infront of your reel ,what you do is cast out ,place your rod down and when your bait sinks take the slack of your line and tuck it under the rubber band then slip your platic tube over the line just infront of tour first loop ,what happens is when you get a take the line will pull out of the band and the plastic tube will drop down (almost like a homemade bit alarm)any way works for me happy fishing.
