Piking tomorrow

Should be out tomorrow, for some piking with my dad (who really wants to catch one!) We'll be going to Blickling Lake, which is 22 acres. I've fished here before, but never for pike, caught some lovely bream, and my mate was snapped off by a pike on bream pellets.

Anyone have any tips on how to go about fishing such a big lake for pike? I assume the margins will be a good place (lots of reedbeds around), deep open water, and maybe drop offs??

Any help, greatly appreciated

Re: Piking tomorrow

look for the fish holding areas, where the fry are likely to be
i usualy like working around overhanging vegitation although you can get snaged often

Re: Piking tomorrow

Good luck mate

Big lakes can be hard till you know what the depth is and where the shelves are

I always go around the new lake with plugs / lures and check out every peg , which hopefully gives me and idea of the depth and were the pike are

Also by doing this you can have a good chat with other anglers to see if you can get any info from them

Or just slap out two deadbaits one in the middle and one to the margins and just wait. If you get no runs in two hours move

If there is a slit wind you can rig up a float and drift the lake

Im sure there will be a nice picture of you holding a nice fat pike tomm..

Re: Piking tomorrow

i have read that the best way to tackle large waters is to treat every bay or inlet as a lake in its own right,
thats one way of looking at it.
if it was me i would look out for any decaying lily beds or any obvious fish holding areas,
you could also have a look at what the other anglers are doing,if there is a guy bagging up on silver fish you can be sure the pike are not far away.
islands are also worth a look and any fallen trees etc,
anywhere where there is cover,

its worth thinking to yourself "if i was a pike, where would i sit and ambush my dinner "

i'm sure you will do well mate,
best of luck.

Re: Piking tomorrow

No, i don't and probaly would only use it for lure fishing, but i've done fine without it, so don't think I'll bother, but have heard it's much better for lure work
