Smile P.A.C meet , quays gravelpit Farnborough

Well I had been looking forward to this event for a good while( seems ages since got ticket) and especially with some forward planning both paul and myself were booked in for the same day

The quays gravel pit is a largish lake with a carp syndicate on it, but we were obviously there for the pike

It was a lateish start at 8am so therefore i arrived at 7.15 with a slightly thick head from mates birthday drink night before, obviously paul was already there and after the quick abuseive greetings to each other we then stood by the gates watching the lake wake up

after saying hi to the organiser and others and then finding out some info on the lake we set off down the south side to get our swims

it was soon aparrent that fishing togethere in a swim just wasnt going to happen, paul picked a lovely looking reed lined bay near the carpark end and i was 200yrds arround the corner into another likely looking bay

with also a large expanse of open water infront as well

as you can see conditions werent exactly great for the pike with a flat calm mirror lake , but hey we were there and so were the fish

very soon paul text me to say he'd just had a 9lber then he rubbed it in with a 5 to follow

i was getting nothing but after these texts was still confident

paul then did the honours on some top brekfast bacon rolls ( top man) just look at that special slice he uses to turn the bacon( sure he cleaned them after unhooking the pike )

soon after the waterskiers started,

makeing the swim look more like a beach with the wake ( lines were soon backleaded after this)

and i wont moan about the rowers on our canal either now

a while later and whilst chatting to another guy i was far too eager to grab a run after too long of in activity and skillfully lost a fish but after resetting that rod my other rod whent off with a very delicate drop back , and yess fish on, which scrapped like an absolute deamon and tangled through the float rod as well, but a pretty blank busting 4-5lber was at my feet( though was going to be far more with the fight it gave

then all was quiet again so we all drew in lines and met up for a BBQ, where i met Stella

the afternoon was far too peacefull, eventually paul called it quits at 5pm as had a fair trek home.
me well i fished on untill far to dimpsey to see my float at 6.30 ,although there were far more fish moveing arround then in evening stillness, but not mr pike for me,
so I then headed back to say goodbyes and wish some of the others who were bivvying overnight good luck

a damn good day , I didnt blank, I met a few good people and the usual banter with the head looney paul

dave

P.S if i get a chance to go again , i'd do the 2 days as i bet they feed better late eve or early morning

pps your speedo's were still hanging in the tree when i left paul ( well i wasnt going to touch them )

Re: P.A.C meet , quays gravelpit Farnborough

what a great day mate,it was a long long drive for me ,100 miles + and i felt it when i finally got home - M25,
not sure if you can see by the pic,i was turning the bacon rashers with the forceps i had 30 minutes earlier used for unhooking a pike,
all very hygenic of course

this was a frustrating day, there are obviously big fish in the lake, but only jacks came out,i will seriously think about fishing the night next time,

by the way dave,it was#nt my speedos it was your leotard that was hanging up
