Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? As i mentioned i another thread ive been fishing llangorse lake in wales. A local fisherman mentioned to my mother in law (to be) whilst visiting the farm that up to 10lb pike can be kept and eaten and have a taste akin to Hake. Is this true? I was skeptical myself. Would it just depend on the rules of that particular water? Thanks

Re: Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? I know that pike can be taken and eaten. It all depends on the water venue. i have heard that its a muddy fish to eat tho. tj

Re: Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? I think it really depends on the water. Saw robson green extreme fishing last week or the week before where he was eating pike. It was made out to taste good. So let us know

Re: Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? There are some moral issue here too.....I would hate to see a thread titled 'Pike numbers reach all time low' I appreciate we are in an economic down turn but eating pike.....On this basis I wouldnt have eaten since November Leave em in so we can carry on catching them!

Re: Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? just be very careful if you are thinking about taking a fish for the table, some fisheries do not allow it and some anglers are very protective of the fish in their waters you might have a spot of bother,

it was merely the fact that it was mentioned as fact and i doubted it somewhat. however it may be something i shall try once, on the correct water of course |

Re: Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? my dad is a die hard trout fisherman and he used to hate pike. like a lot of old timers he would kill any pike caught on trout waters, difference was he would eat them "dont kill anything you cant eat" anyways, when i was younger i used to eat the odd pike and i preffered it to trout! pike aint muddy tasting at all, stocked rainbows are very muddy tasting due to the pellet feed from the farm. i cant even eat a stocked rainbow now! lucky im a great believer in catch and release! now though my old man has kind of come round to my way of thinking and has even been pike fishing with me on the odd occasion, even caught a 17lb'er and remarked "what a loveley looking fish" then put her back! who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks!!!

Re: Can pike be caught and taken? Like trout for example? pike once filleted, soak in lightly salted water over night, cook like cod battered or breadcrumb, very similar texture to cod, best weight about 7/8 lb for the table. over this size they tend to be a little dry. deffinately put larger ones back. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.
