Spin rod for okuma baitcaster? Hi there, I have recently purchased an 7' Abu Garcia diamond spinning rod, which i've been using for sea fishing trips with some bass lures etc. It's a 20-60 gm recommendation and ive been using a mitchell spinning reel and a diawa crossfire match reel with it with 8lb line and 12lb line respectively (the 8lb line and mitchell reel upon recommendation from the seller). My question is can i use an okuma 150 baitcaster reel with this rod for pike fishing? Im fairly new to pike fishing but have really enjoyed some trips down to Llangorse lake in Brecon using a 2.75lb carp rod for deatbaits, but have particularly ejoyed lure fishing with a lighter match rod and reel but obviously im aware using a match rod for pike spinning isnt really recommended! As far as im aware the reel sits on the other side of the rod, i.e eyes up, can any rod be used this way or does this affect the strength of the action if the rod is normally used eyes down. Im basically worried about breakin my new rod! sorry about the essay heres a link to the reel: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_t...All-Categories thanks for any replies. Sifter

Re: Spin rod for okuma baitcaster? The rod should be ok with pike, but it might be worth looking at longer rod, but that only my thoughts, the john wilson six shooter is only 6ft long and i have seen him land good sized pike with it on Tv. I don't think that it make a lot of difference which way the rod is. but not 100% certain on that though. Regards, Steve __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: Spin rod for okuma baitcaster? thanks for the info Im not really worried about the length too much, its lovely to cast, and with a decent lure i can really get some distance, the trouble with fishing with longer rods is space when you're on a small boat! i just cant find any info as to whether rods are specifically manufactured to be used one way or the other and whether if used upside down ill snap it when i get a bite because its only meant to flex one way! thanks again sifter

Re: Spin rod for okuma baitcaster? you wont have any problems mate. watch out for slimey hands wen casting hard as you wont have a trigger grip which is the style used on most baitcasters some times they can slip..... __________________ PIKE anything else is just bait!! i live in devon, well ya wouldnt want a warm beer would ya!! www.lurefishingwithdanny.blogspot.com
