| pike record on the fly? can anyone tell me the confirmed record for pike on the fly? hey guys, always been into pike fishing and salmon/trout flyfishing so decided to try my hand at pike on the fly. was on a small private loch in central scotland with my trout rod (#7 sharpes belmont) had tied myself some big deer hair pike lures, i'd noticed the pike had just moved back into the margins after some nice sunshine so was working my way round all the cover and weedbeds, after a couple of snags i was delighted to get my first pikey on the fly, a small jack of under 4lb which was good fun on a 9ft 7weight trout rod. so, all was well. decided to try round a big reed bed on the far bank which to me looked real pikey, first cast to load the line and wet the monster of a fly (which looked like a small bird when in the air!) i just held the rod while my quick sink line went down, got my cigs out gave the line one small tug to level it out, got a real quick pull which was so unexpected it pulled the line out of my fingers, line went slack, gave it a pull and it was stuck, next thing i knew it was off again! after a fight of about 26 hours (probably more 26 mins) i had landed my 2nd pike on the fly.......25lb 11oz what a day! and this was all on a light belmont & #7 sinking line. will get the missus to transfer the pics onto laptop for me so pics to follow! |
