Lost crocs

Tell me about your worst nightmare---loosing your big mama !
My worst loss was last year, was fishing from my boat and was casting my red/white HILO against the weedline. suddenly a pike took it and I retrieved a couple of yards before it turned, rushed into a weed bunch near land.Took a round there and snapped the line with the biggest splash I ever seen from a fish.I assume it was way over 10 kilo(22lb).Its hard to say but compared to any other excperience it was huge..
I cant recall to be so frustrated loosing a fish...... and that include loosing some medium salmon some years ago.

Re: Lost crocs

an 8lber gave me the run around,

i knew he was in the deep corner of beat 8 after he had been seen during the weed cut.
so when i had free time and there was no trout rod on that beat after work
i'd give it a shot.
either with a toby, or sink/draw a trout deadbait through , or drop the trout in and wait.

over about 3 weeks i hooked n lost him about 3 times on the toby and once on the sink /drawn trout. i'm not that bloody bad!

i gave him a rest and the following week hooked him again on a 30grm toby,
he rolled on it & broke me swimming off with that bloody great lure dangleing from his gob.
2 days later i saw him again he had shed the lure somewhere which was a good thing

caught him a couple of weeks later with a sink draw trout, and found he had a severely underdeveloped top jaw , the lower jaw over shot it by 2-3 inches
which may have explained why i had problems staying hooked up, either that or i'm just crap at pikeing.

Re: Lost crocs

Where in norway do you live gjedda ? i love pike fishing but have not found any waters around here that hold them. I live in Rogaland (Strand Kommune) and it's mainly salmon, trout or sea fishing here.
har det bra !

Re: Lost crocs

Hello Doug !
I live by "mjøsa" Norway`s largest lake. Great for fishing large pike, trout and alot of carpfish species. There is a large "fleet" with trout trolling enthusiasts here, getting alot of trouts and some pike too. Average trout weight are 3lb but they land several 22lb during a season.
I rarely troll for trout,I prefer going for pike in a wetland area near Hamar. I have one good spot there with good amount of large pike.I also have some good spots further out in the lake itself.
I know there is not much pike by Stavanger, pike is an inland specie.
Have you been in Norway a long time?Do you speek Norwegian?
If you are nearby Hamar this season, just let me know and I will show you some good areas for us to fish. That would be fun Doug !
Cheers,
Harald

Re: Lost crocs

Cheers Harald !
You are a bit of a long way from me ! My norwegian is coming along slowly - I learnt most from the Julekalander !
We have been here for nearly 5 years now.
We are planning to visit Hamar one day but not sure when yet but when we do I will contact you.
Hilsen
Doug
