| Chew Valley Lake - 21st February Following on from my posts Pike...Less and the Exeter Canal this weekend is the big one....Chew Valley Lake in a boat. Two rods out the back with deadbaits and me and my fishing partner fishing all types of artificials out the front like billy-oh....Fingers crossed my next post will be pix of fat toothy types....Failing that I will be posting several items in the for sale section!! In all seriousness getting a pike boat on Chew is a result so I intend to fish my plums off and hopefully bag a few...Reports are good with a couple of 30's and plenty od 20's each day...Will post results Sunday...wish me luck!! |

Fair to say it wasn't fishing its head off...in fact the exact opposite. Two dead baits out the back of the boat and a tackle shop's supply of lures tried out of the front with no end result....Such great anticipation crushed by a lack of fish...Last time I fished Chew in November 17 fish were boated and I had 6 on one drift so I know the tactics work.. Had a beer in the bar afterwards and listened to equal tales of woe albeit with the odd jack thown in for good measure. The return cards for the day revealed one fish of 7lb and nothing else from about 20 boats. In terms of a fishy reason (excuse) for the result...I would put it down to the water being bloody freezing following the run off from the snow. That being said Chew is an exceptional Pike water gaining a solid reputation as one of the UK's best venues. I have seen it at its best and now at its worst!!! I need a venue to get this blanking habit dealt with....suggestions for anywhere within about 50 miles of Clevedon welcome! ![]() ![]() |
