EUropean Pike VS Northern Pike.

Folks,

From the US - I travel to England for work and want to know something about Pike over in this region.

Do European Pike get bigger then Northern Pike? European Pike almost look like Musky and I have seen some really big pics recently of them.

Your Thoughts

Post Re: EUropean Pike VS Northern Pike.

There are three main species of pike that are of interest to the sport fisherman.

The Northern Pike (Esox Lucius) which is found both in Europe & America. The UK record fish was caught in Wales in 1992 & weighed 46lb 13oz

The Muskellunge (Esox Masquinongy) which is a North American species. I believe the current record for this species stands at 70lb

The Pickerel or Southern Pike (Esox Niger) Also an American species that rarely exceeds 10lbs in weight.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. I know the species you mention quite well. Let me find this photo and I will post it.
