well back home after a very silly day
last night had been a touch stormy to say the least after I left the beach/pub with baggie and on radio on way out today there were plenty of flood warnings in place

but i was off to fish the canal that would be ok, wouldnt it

so 6.30 am and i'm off as want to get fishing for sunrise, head off and notice as getting close that the surrounding fields are now lakes , but indeterred i head off down the track to the kilns, well the track is very tight in places with ditches either side so only about 2 passing places and 1 to turn arround untill get to the car park itself, and to say the track is a bit pot holed is an understatement and these were all filled with water, then i went round a bend and it was like a chocolate slick.....mmmmmm... didnt look too deep in the dark and i'm sure this section is level lets go ! .......mmmmmmmm.... NO ITS NOT LEVEL and the middle section is like a river going from 1 field ditch to other and theres a hoofing great pot hole at end and the whole front of car is swamped. but i cant go back either

but i managed to tempt/ roll it out to firm ground and then manage to restart car and get to the kilns but now i was trapped as there was no way i could go back... mmm... text tj and baggie that joining was a bad idea, as i was going to sit it out ( ok and fish) and hope waters subsided before heading back , baggie obviously picked up his message as didnt appear, then 2 hours later TJ jogs along the track towards me with a plea

"Dave have you got a tow rope ??????"

well we get TJs van out but it wasnt happy as just would not restart, but i felt happier as was now 2 of us trapped

so what else could we do but fish

so we went off to get the 24yr old pike virgin his fish

went to first bend and put him in a likely swim and although water was very dirty the baits went out , Dureing this time Mark from exeter angling and our sea club turned up with a 4x4 and was willing to tow later if needed, so feeling happier we fished

first hour and a half nothing then TJ notices some action on his ledgered rod and it was

ready

go!!!!


and what a way to pop your cheery with this beaut at bang on 10lb


well chuffed and confidence now high we carried on then 1/2 hour later we realised a storm comeing through, oh god more water in the field , but brollies up then just as heavens opened it was tj again this time a pretty 5lber



then another 1/2 hour and it was marks turn


and a cracking 12lb7oz


he then proceeded to show us how it was done with 4 more fish between 4-7 lb, the man is a pike magnet.

Unlike myself who had to register a blank, but i dont care as was a nice session to be at and actually ended up a good impromptu social

we packed up and left a bit before 5 as wanted to get TJs van started and had heard water level down, but the van still didnt want to know , so mark towed him out to road (water was well down now so i followed gingerly but still managed to break under enginge protection shroud )
and to petrol station where he awaited the AA,

so a massive thanks Mark for your help, and showing me repeatedly what a pike looks like , and a massive well done to TJ for popping your cherry at last

must add that thinking back it was more than a bit stupid driving through and i should have gone somewhere else,
but will heed as a warning for next trip if track wet at that point

or try to get a cheap 4 x 4 myself.... thers an idea
