double double to start 2009

well today was a funny old day
the mrs was ill in bed all day yesterday and no better this morning before i went to work , so i said tentetively that if she was at home for the kids after school , would pikeing be ok if the weather held

,
as i was gagging to get a decent session in after the ice of last 2 weeks, and being the diamond she is i got a groggy yes, game on

got out of work early at 1 and was at the kilns by 1.15 , met a guy on front bank who had had a 8lb signs were good, down to the boats by 1.30 and both rods in the water bafore 2( when i should finish work

) , watching the ommoness sky heading towards me, but a good ripple on water i liked this

I then watched the guy i'd past earlier in the distance catch another, and sat back and waited

Then just 1 sudden beep!!! on left hand rod and i notice the back swinger rammed up against the spool which had knocked the bail arm back closed , and the rod is bouncing

pick it up and BINGO fish on, after a very poor fight thgis lovelly couloured 11lber slips into the net

which fought like a demon on the bank

I was well chuffed

then that storm came through and i just sheltered down, but after 10 mins it cleared through leaving a flat calm and mirror like canal

well i fished through till last knockings of light
when packing down i slowly retrieved the float rod and left in margin whilst takeing down alarm poles, as i turned to put poles in rod bag I notice out of the corner of eye ripples in that flat calm water and realise my float is steaming off into the canal

, strike and fish on
this time a good spirited fight and another double at 10.5 lb( did wonder if same fish but positive not in pics after) again very lively on bank and green when put back

sent him off and he was immediately attacking bait fish on the margins this side
packed up and headed home at 5,15 in rapidly deepening gloom and icey ground

So in the end a great session with 2 doubles a first for me in a single session

cant wait to get back
